I choked on my beer. “What?”

“He’s like all smiley now, when before he was all about work and get me this and get me that and do this and do that. Now he doesn’t even come back to the office after court.”

So, I wasn’t the only one to notice he wasn’t returning from the courthouse.

“He did just move. Maybe he’s busy unpacking or something,” I suggested.

“Nope.” Camille shook her head. “No one is that happy about moving and unpacking for weeks.”

“True.” I drank some more of my beer. “So, you think he’s seeing someone?”

“Or at least dating again, and good for him. He’s been single for years and after everything he went through with his late wife …”

“Yeah, I can’t imagine.”

Of course I wouldn’t tell Camille I was the one Sean was seeing. I liked what he and I secretly shared, and I knew he had been hesitant to start anything with me to begin with. Whatever was happening between me and Sean, I was going to ride it as long as possible and not rock the boat.

And ride him.

“Anyway, I’m happy for him.” Camille finished her drink with a big gulp.

“Me too.”

She waved the waitress over and ordered another margarita. I was still nursing my beer. If Camille kept going, I had a feeling I was going to need to drive her home.

Two more margaritas for Camille, and burgers and fries for each of us later, Camille slid off her chair and placed her credit card down. “I need to go to the little girls’ room and then head home.”

“Sure.” I watched as she swayed on her feet somewhat and headed for the restroom. My phone buzzed with a text, and I pulled it out of my slacks.

Can you come over? I’d really like to talk

I let out a small groan as I read his words. He wanted to talk?

The waitress came over and grabbed Camille’s credit card and I handed her mine as well. As she walked away, I replied to Sean:

Talk? That doesn’t sound good

It’s good. I promise

Ok. I’m out with Camille now but can head over after

I’ll be waiting

Before I could text back and ask if he’d be naked, Camille returned.

“I think I need to order a rideshare,” she stated.

“Three margaritas will do that to you.”

The waitress returned and gave us the credit card slips to sign. After we did, Camille ordered a ride and we started for the front door. Her steps faltered a bit, and I reached out to hook my arm with hers.

“Are you going to be in trouble with your mother-in-law when you get home?” I teased.

“Probably, but I don’t give a fuck.”

I snorted a laugh. “Clearly.”

“But thanks for having drinks with me. I really needed them.”
