“No, Sweetheart.You’re not.You’re tired and underweight.But that will change.”

Nala stood and walked to the window to stare out.The backyard was gorgeous, and she wondered if she’d be able to spend time there.“Why are you doing this for me?”

Drew smiled.“I’m not sure.The first time I saw you, I felt a connection, and the more I learned about you, the more I wanted you around.”

“What will I be to you?”she asked without turning.

“Do we have to put a label on it?”

She thought about that for a minute.“No.But I’d like to have another room until we get to know each other.”

“Absolutely not.”

She spun around.“Why?”

“Because you’re mine, and I want you with me.”

She didn’t know how she felt about that.“There are things you don’t know about me.What if you don’t want me here after you find out?”

“I doubt there’s anything you can tell me that would change how I feel, but if you’re right.I’ll find a job and a place for you to live.I won’t just dump you on the street.”

She relaxed and nodded.“Okay.I’m still not ready for sex.”

He smirked.“I already told you that you’ll have to beg me to fuck you.”

Nala opened her mouth but shut it when there was a knock on the door.

“Ah, here’s the person I want you to meet.I have to go out for a bit, so she’ll stay with you and show you around.”

“She?”

“Yes.My brother’s woman.I think you two will get along very well.”

Having another woman around would help tremendously.She hadn’t had a chance to make friends for years.It looked like her life was taking another curve, but this one seemed to be better than anything else.She’d appreciate anything that kept her safe.

Chapter Eleven

Nala nodded and then watched him walk to the door and open it.She heard some talking, and then he opened the door wider and let in a pretty woman with things in her arms.She was a little taller than herself, with beautiful hair and eyes.Her smile was sweet and immediately put her at ease.A maid followed with her arms full of things also.

“Just set it on the bed,” Drew said.

“Sara, I want you to meet … Scarlet.”Drew’s brow rose.

Nala could feel her face heat with a blush, but she didn’t say anything.

“Is it okay if I leave her in your hands?”

Sara smiled.“That’s wonderful.It will be nice to have another woman around.I have to go to their cousin’s if I want to hang with girls.”

“You know it’s for your protection,” Drew said.

Sara nodded.“Yes, I know.I’m told that just about every day.”

Nala stiffened when Drew walked to her and pressed a kiss on her forehead.“I’ll be back later.”

Nala nodded and watched him go.

Sara walked to her and touched her arm.“Hey.Everything’s going to be okay.”
